Cosmic Championships 2009 and Ben Rinnes

The 3rd race for the 2009 Championship was Ben Rinnes 5 Tops on Saturday 25th July from Dufftown Highland Games. 90 or so people plus 2 dogs started, 85 people (including 16 Cosmics) and both the dogs finished the race. It was rather boggy in places, but otherwise conditions were good - not too hot and the rain that threatened occasionally kept off. Simon Peachey had a great run for 2nd place behind Andy Symonds who lowered John Duncan's 2000 record by 5 secs, Veronique Oldham was 3rd woman and 1st FV40. Back at the field, everyone could enjoy ice cream, venison burghers and watch the last of the heavy events and pipe bands in the sunshine.

In the Cosmic Championship, Jason Williamson is first, followed by Colin Larmour, and Gillian Clunas is leading the female rankings.

The next Cosmic championship race is the Glenshee 9 (you get 9 Munroe's) on 9th August. 33K 1800m, starts 12.00, registration from 10.00 to 11.30. For details and entry form (£10, closing date is 3rd August) see the Glenshee 9 website. The course is not marked and NAVIGATION WILL BE REQUIRED. The race is also part of the Long Classics Series.

Jason wins Lochaber Triple Hirple

Congratulations to Jason Williamson who won the Lochaber AC 3 race series "the Triple Hirple" (by 28 secs from Alan Smith).  Some of us (Veronique, Colin Larmour, Sarah and Anita) felt we had done quite enough with the short and very steep Melantee race on the Saturday (this was an SHR championship race) - Veronique was 2nd woman.  Colin Reid was tougher and also did the Half Nevis on the Sunday, but a lot of mad folk managed the Cow Hill race on the Monday as well to complete the series.  I don't know if the 2nd and 3rd races were quite as hot as the first, but the weather in Lochaber seemed to be tropical, and the river almost not cold enough for cooling down after.
